My family has deep roots in Burlington, dating back to my great Grandfather Ole Johnson 1858-1927 and his wife, my great Grandma, Hannah Erickson 1869-1922. This union is where my family’s Burlington heritage begins.
My Grandpa Ronald Johnson and his wife, my Grandma, Susette Smith also lived and raised their family here in Burlington. Both Ron and Susette were graduates of Burlington High School. They had 3 children, Patricia (my aunt), Ronda (my Mom), and Fred (my uncle). Also, Edward Smith, my Grandma Susette’s brother was the owner of the Hub Transfer. He was also a former Mayor of Burlington 1957-1960.
Ronda Johnson, also a Burlington-Edison High School graduate, married my father Rick DeGloria and have been married for over 50 years. They also chose to raise their family -my siblings, Carrie, John, and Katie - here in Burlington. My father has served for nearly 8 years on City Council, formerly 27 years on the civil service commission, and was a local business owner of Burlington Eye Care Center.
My wife, Jana, and I will be celebrating our 21st wedding anniversary this year. We are the proud parents of our 3 children, LJ, Ryanne, and Evan. All 3 of our kids will be fourth generation B-EHS graduates. My family’s civic mindset is being passed on to them.
